 2017 Preview 


       Marengo Academy completed the 2016 season with a 11-1 record. Last year Marengo Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. The Marengo Academy Longhorns claimed the AISA-A State Championship by defeating Chambers Academy 34-33 in Troy.

       Over the past two seasons the Longhorns have gone 21-3 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Marengo Academy has gone a combined 55-26. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Marengo Academy has managed to compile a record of 160-121. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class A and 14th in the AISA.

Tutt leaves Marengo Academy with a record of 43-16 in two Head Coaching stints at the school, 1993-1995, and 2015-2016, where his Dad, David Barr Tutt helped start the school and was the first football coach back in 1970.


Woodie Beck, after being named as the head football coach left prior to the beginning of fall practice. Lebo Jones will now take over the head coaching duties for the 2017 season.

Jones is a former head coach at Meadowview Christian between 2012-2016 with a 15-31 record.



       Coach Jones' overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 15-31 (32.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Jones' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Marengo Academy Longhorns will play in Class A region two during the 2017 season.

       The Longhorns enter the 2017 season riding a 10 game winning streak. They have also won 7 consecutive regular season games. Marengo Academy has won 23 consecutive region games. They have won 11 straight games on their home turf at Linden Athletic Field.

       The Longhorns enter the season with expectations of not only a region title but reaching the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November.

       The Longhorns open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Morgan Academy on Friday, August 25 at Senator Field. Last year the Morgan Academy Senators finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fifth place in Class AAA region two. The Senators closed out the regular season with a loss to Autauga Academy by a score of 49-7.

       Marengo Academy and Morgan Academy have met a total of 30 times on the football field. The Longhorns have a 13-17-0 record against the Senators. They last met in 2016 with Marengo Academy winning by a score of 42-6.
