Northside Methodist Academy completed the 2016 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-2 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AAA region two, the Knights earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Northside Methodist Academy's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Bessemer Academy by a score of 69-3. The Knights have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017. Northside Methodist Academy is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only three seasons. They have managed a record of 14-18 over the past three years. Dustin Harrison leaves Northside Methodist after three seasons and a 14-18 record. George Kennedy arrives at Northside Methodist after a thirteen year career as a head football coach in the AHSAA. His last job as a head coach was at G.W. Long in 2007. Coach Kennedy's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 77-63 (55.0%). Over the course of his career, Coach Kennedy's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won one region championship. The Northside Methodist Academy Knights will play in Class AAA region two during the 2017 season. The Knights will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region two this season. The Knights open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Abbeville Christian on Thursday, August 24 at Generals Stadium. Last year the Abbeville Christian Generals finished with an overall record of 7-6 and in second place in Class A region one. The Generals lost in the semi-finals round of the Class A playoffs to Marengo Academy by a score of 42-17. Northside Methodist Academy and Abbeville Christian have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Knights have a 1-5-0 record against the Generals. They last met in 2016 with Northside Methodist Academy winning by a score of 32-27. Northside Methodist Academy returns AISA All-State Senior punter Briceson Cook. He was named to the first team last season. The Knights also return Junior defensive back Jake Kinney.
