 2017 Preview 


       Pike County completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. Last year Pike County captured the region three title and a number one seed in the Class 3A playoffs. They finished region play with a 6-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Bulldogs since the 2009 season. Pike County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Bayside Academy by a score of 24-7.

       Since 2010, Pike County has gone a combined 41-34. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Pike County has managed to compile a record of 200-107. Their 65.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 3A and 56th in the AHSAA.

       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Fred Holland who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 35-21 over the past five seasons at Pike County. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have won one region crown with Coach Holland.

       Coach Holland's overall record as a head football coach in five season stands at 35-21 (62.5%).

       The Pike County Bulldogs will play in Class 3A region three during the 2017 season.

       The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Elba on Friday, September 1 at Bulldog Stadium. Last year the Elba Tigers finished with an overall record of 10-3 and in first place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 2A playoffs to Aliceville by a score of 52-44.

       Pike County and Elba have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 15-22-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2016 with Elba winning by a score of 36-22.

       Pike County returns 3A All-State Senior linebacker Tekevin Thomas. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
