2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Plainview completed the 2016 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region seven, the Bears earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Plainview's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Colbert County by a score of 31-20. Plainview was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bears want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game. Since 2010, Plainview has gone a combined 49-29. Their 63.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Plainview has gone a combined 213-94. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 3A and 32nd in the AHSAA. The Bears have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. The Bears are led by head coach Dustin Goodwin who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 12-10 over the past two seasons at Plainview. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Goodwin. Coach Goodwin's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 12-10 (54.5%). The Plainview Bears will play in Class 3A region seven during the 2017 season. The Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. The Bears open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Sardis on Friday, August 25 at Plainview Stadium. Last year the Sardis Lions finished with an overall record of 4-6 and in fifth place in Class 4A region seven. The Lions ended last season on a positive note with a win over Boaz by a score of 48-7 after failing to gain a playoff spot. Plainview and Sardis have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Bears have a 18-4-0 record against the Lions. They last met in 2016 with Plainview winning by a score of 20-6. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
