 2017 Preview 


       Prattville Christian completed the 2016 season with a 5-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region three, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Prattville Christian's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gordo by a score of 55-14.

       The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 2010. The Panthers have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2017.

       Since 2010, Prattville Christian has gone a combined 29-47. Their 38.0% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 3A over the past seven seasons.

       Over the past 11 seasons, Prattville Christian has not won much with a record of 40-78. Their 34.0% winning percentage ranks 51st in Class 3A and 327th in the AHSAA. The Panthers have struggled on the football field with only two winning seasons during this time. Their last winning season was 2010.

       The Panthers are led by head coach John Fussell who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 5-6 record in his first season at Prattville Christian. The Panthers saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Fussell arrived. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Fussell.

       Coach Fussell's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 8-13 (38.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Fussell's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time .

       The Prattville Christian Panthers will play in Class 3A region three during the 2017 season.

       It will be an uphill battle for the Panthers if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region three this season.

       The Panthers open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Thorsby on Friday, August 25 at Susan Bentley Field. Last year the Thorsby Rebels finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in sixth place in Class 2A region four. The Rebels closed out the regular season with a loss to Isabella by a score of 42-6.

       Prattville Christian and Thorsby have met a total of 6 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 2-4-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in 2016 with Prattville Christian winning by a score of 29-21.

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
