2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sheffield completed the 2016 season with a 9-3 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region eight, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Sheffield reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to LaFayette by a score of 40-34. The Bulldogs improved in 2016 with their first winning season since 2012. It marked the first time since the 2013 season that the Bulldogs qualified for the playoffs. The Bulldogs had some tough luck last season as they lost three games, all by less than eight points. The Bulldogs hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Hufstedler saw improvement as they won nine games following a 4-6 record in 2015. Since 2010, Sheffield has gone a combined 40-38. Their 51.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 2A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Sheffield has managed to compile a record of 148-139. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 21st in Class 2A and 174th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Hufstedler who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 36-31 over the past six seasons at Sheffield. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Hufstedler. Coach Hufstedler's overall record as a head football coach in six season stands at 36-31 (53.7%). The Sheffield Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2017 season. The Bulldogs should be considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Bulldogs open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Wilson on Thursday, August 24 at Warrior Stadium. Last year the Wilson Warriors finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in third place in Class 4A region eight. The Warriors lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to North Jackson by a score of 41-7. Sheffield and Wilson have met a total of 22 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 16-6-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in 2016 with Wilson winning by a score of 17-14. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
