 2017 Preview

Tuscaloosa County finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Tuscaloosa County finished eighth in Class 7A region three with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The defense allowed a team record 319 points last season.

Tuscaloosa County was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Wildcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.3 points a game.

The Wildcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Tuscaloosa County has gone a combined 37-40. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 20th in Class 7A over the past seven seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Tuscaloosa County has managed to compile a record of 185-112. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 7A and 76th in the AHSAA.

Bart Sessions leaves Tuscaloosa County after just a single season. He has moved on and accepted the head coaching job at Gadsden City. His only team in Tuscaloosa finished with a 2-8 record.

John Holladay left Buckhorn after a single season with a 5-5 record. He accepted the head coaching job at Tuscaloosa County.

Holladay has previously been the head football coach at Brilliant, Hamilton, Clay-Chalkville and Walker. His overall record in seventeen seasons stands at 135-71 and 13-13 in the playoffs.

Coach Holladay's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen season stands at 135-71 (65.5%). His 135 wins rank th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Holladay's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won three region championships.

The Tuscaloosa County Wildcats will play in Class 7A region three during the 2017 season. The Wildcats have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-47 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 7A and 42nd in the AHSAA.

The Wildcats enter the 2017 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Wildcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region three.

The Wildcats open the 2017 season at home against non-region opponent Paul Bryant on Friday, August 25 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Paul Bryant Stampede finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 6A region four. The Stampede lost in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs to Opelika by a score of 48-12.

Tuscaloosa County and Paul Bryant have met a total of 10 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 10-0-0 record against the Stampede. They last met in 2016 with Tuscaloosa County winning by a score of 38-21.
