2017 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Loachapoka finished the 2016 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 3-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 1A region three, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2016. Loachapoka's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Wadley by a score of 50-7. The Indians lost as many games as in any season since 1994. The defense allowed a team record 378 points last season. Since 2010, Loachapoka has gone a combined 37-41. Their 47.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 1A over the past seven seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Loachapoka has managed to compile a record of 162-126. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 13th in Class 1A and 121st in the AHSAA. After 22 seasons as the head coach at Loachapoka, Jerome Tate stepped down during the off season. His teams went a combined 152-98 and 16-18 in the playoffs. Four of his teams won region championships along the way. Since 1974 when the school opened they have had only three head coaches. Antonio Richards arrives in Loachapoka to fill some big shoes. He most recently served as an offensive analyst and recruiting coordinator for Michigan. Richards was an assistant at Prattville prior to becoming the head coach at Autaugaville for the 2010 season. Coach Richards' overall record as a head football coach in one season stands at 8-4 (66.7%). Over the course of his career, Coach Richards' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . The Loachapoka Indians will play in Class 1A region three during the 2017 season. The Indians have one of the toughest schedules in Class 1A. Their opponents had a combined record of 74-41 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 1A and 7th in the AHSAA. The Indians will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region three this season. They have qualified for the playoffs every year since 2002 and are hopeful to continue that streak in 2017. Stephen Harris returns for his Senior season after completing 46 of 91 passes for 670 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also rushed for 360 yards and another 3 scores. Senior Jyquan Combs returns after rushing for 736 yards on 112 carries and scoring 8 TDs. Sophomore Demontrey Moore will also be in the backfield after rushing for 409 yards on 98 carries and scoring 6 touchdowns. The defense returns Senior outside linebacker Jamal Redden who registered 80 tackles last season. The Indians open the 2017 season on the road against non-region opponent Georgiana on Friday, August 25 at Harmond Field. Last year the Georgiana Panthers finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 1A region two. The Panthers lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Linden by a score of 52-12. Loachapoka and Georgiana have met a total of 3 times on the football field. The Indians have a 0-3-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2016 with Georgiana winning by a score of 44-22. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
