2018 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
James Clemens finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year James Clemens finished sixth in Class 7A region four with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. James Clemens took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2013. The Jets hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 8-4 record in 2016. James Clemens was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Jets want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.0 points a game. James Clemens is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only six seasons. They have managed a record of 30-35 over the past six years. The Jets are led by head coach Wade Waldrop who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 30-25 over the past five seasons at James Clemens. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs a total of three times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Waldrop. Coach Waldrop's overall record as a head football coach in twelve season stands at 71-59 (54.6%). Over the course of his career, Coach Waldrop's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times and won one region championship. The James Clemens Jets will play in Class 7A region four during the 2018 season. The Jets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 75-43 last season. That ranks 5th in Class 7A and 14th in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Jets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region four this season. James Clemens came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year. The Jets open the 2018 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Thompson on Friday, August 24 at . Last year the Thompson Warriors finished with an overall record of 12-1 and in first place in Class 7A region three. The Warriors lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 7A playoffs to Hoover by a score of 31-12. This will be the second meeting between James Clemens and Thompson on the football field. The Jets have a 0-1-0 record against the Warriors. They last met in with James Clemens returns 7A All-State defensive lineman Daevion Davis. He was named to the first team last season. The Jets also return linebacker Zach Hopkins. He was named to the honorable mention team. College prospects include: Daevion Davis (6-2, 310) defensive tackle, Jamil Muhammad (6-1, 217) athlete, | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
