 2018 Preview

Oneonta finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year Oneonta finished seventh in Class 4A region five with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Since 2010, Oneonta has gone a combined 68-32. Their 68.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 4A over the past eight seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Oneonta has managed to compile a record of 190-96. Their 66.0% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 4A and 56th in the AHSAA.

The Redskins will be under the direction of new head football coach Phil Phillips as they enter the 2018 season.

The Oneonta Redskins will play in Class 4A region six during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Redskins remain in 4A but move from region five over to region six.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Redskins could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Oneonta missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2018.

The Redskins open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Hayden on Friday, August 31 at Gilbreath Stadium. Last year the Hayden Wildcats finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in second place in Class 5A region six. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Lee Huntsville by a score of 31-21.

Oneonta and Hayden have met a total of 37 times on the football field. The Redskins have a 30-7-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2011 with Oneonta winning by a score of 47-6.
