 2018 Preview

Phil Campbell finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Phil Campbell finished seventh in Class 2A region eight with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Bobcats last playoff victory came during the 2000 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win.

Phil Campbell was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bobcats want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.1 points a game.

The Bobcats would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, the Phil Campbell football program has struggled with a record of 20-62.

Over the past 25 seasons, Phil Campbell has not won much with a record of 80-172. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 3A and 331st in the AHSAA. Their last winning season was 2001.

The Bobcats will be under the direction of new head football coach Kevin Barnwell as they enter the 2018 season.

The Phil Campbell Bobcats will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2018 season. The Bobcats move up in classification to Class 3A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Bobcats enter the 2018 season in the middle of a 9 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

This season, the Bobcats will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

The Bobcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Red Bay on Friday, August 31 at Parrish Stadium. Last year the Red Bay Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region eight. The Tigers ended last season on a positive note with a win over Cherokee by a score of 22-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Phil Campbell and Red Bay have met a total of 81 times on the football field. The Bobcats have a 32-49-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2017 with Red Bay winning by a score of 22-20.
