 2018 Preview 


       Ider completed the 2017 season with a 6-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region six, the Hornets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2017. Ider's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lamar County by a score of 35-7.

       It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Hornets qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Ider has gone a combined 41-43. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 29th in Class 2A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Ider has managed to compile a record of 118-137. Their 46.0% winning percentage ranks 35th in Class 2A and 232nd in the AHSAA.




       The Hornets are led by head coach Brent Tinker who is entering his sixteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 66-91 over the past fifteen seasons at Ider. Under his direction the Hornets have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won one region crown with Coach Tinker.

       Coach Tinker's overall record as a head football coach in fifteen season stands at 66-91 (42.0%).

       The Ider Hornets will play in Class 2A region eight during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Hornets remain in 2A but move from region six over to region eight. The Hornets have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 60-47 last season. That ranks 3rd in Class 2A and 80th in the AHSAA.

       The Hornets will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region eight this season.

       The Hornets open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Holly Pond on Friday, August 31 at Wayne C. Hardiman Stadium. Last year the Holly Pond Broncos finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in fourth place in Class 3A region six. The Broncos lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to West Morgan by a score of 35-0.
