 2018 Preview 


       Wilcox Academy finished the 2017 season with a disappointing 2-8 record.

       Since 2010, Wilcox Academy has gone a combined 33-52. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class A over the past eight seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Wilcox Academy has managed to compile a record of 142-127. Their 53.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class A and 19th in the AISA.




       The Wildcats are led by head coach Phillip Merryman who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 5-15 over the past two seasons at Wilcox Academy. The Wildcats have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Merryman.

       Coach Merryman's overall record as a head football coach in two season stands at 5-15 (25.0%).

       The Wilcox Academy Wildcats will play in Class A region one during the 2018 season. Following realignment, the Wildcats remain in A but move from region two over to region one.

       Overall, the region is among the weakest in the state. Qualifying for one of the playoffs spots could be a little easier. It will be an uphill battle for the Wildcats if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region one this season. After just 2 wins last year, Wilcox Academy will be hoping to become more competitive in the region.

       The Wildcats open the 2018 season at home against non-region opponent Clarke Prep on Friday, August 24 at Wildcat Field. Last year the Clarke Prep Gators finished with an overall record of 3-8 and in fourth place in Class AA region two. The Gators lost in the first round of the Class AA playoffs to Macon-East Academy by a score of 28-24.

       Wilcox Academy and Clarke Prep have met a total of 32 times on the football field. The Wildcats have a 12-20-0 record against the Gators. They last met in 2017 with Clarke Prep winning by a score of 47-14.
