 2022 Preview

Geneva County completed the 2021 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 2A region two, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Geneva County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lanett by a score of 18-0.

Since 2010, Geneva County has gone a combined 68-62. Their 52.3% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Geneva County has managed to compile a record of 130-139. Their 48.0% winning percentage ranks 26th in Class 2A and 208th in the AHSAA.

The Bulldogs will be under the direction of new head football coach Josh Thompson as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Thompson served as an assistant coach at Geneva County last season.

The Geneva County Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region two during the 2022 season. The Bulldogs have one of the toughest schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 63-44 last season. That ranks 1st in Class 2A and 43rd in the AHSAA.

With a little luck and some improvement, the Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season.

The Bulldogs open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Luverne on Friday, August 26 at Dixie Howell Stadium. Last year the Luverne Tigers finished with an overall record of 9-2 and in second place in Class 2A region three. The Tigers lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Lanett by a score of 33-0.

Geneva County and Luverne have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 2-2-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 1997 with Luverne winning by a score of 28-8.
