 2022 Preview

Headland finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Headland finished seventh in Class 5A region two with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Headland was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rams want to be competitive. They only averaged 14.1 points a game.

The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 3-16 record. Since 2010, Headland has gone a combined 44-78. Their 36.1% winning percentage ranks 40th in Class 5A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Headland has not won much with a record of 82-173. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 50th in Class 5A and 341st in the AHSAA. The Rams have struggled on the football field with only four winning seasons during this time.

The Rams will be under the direction of new head football coach Reginald Melton as they enter the 2022 season.  Coach Melton was the offensive coordinator at Headland in 2021.

The Rams will start the 2022 season with a new head football coach for the fourth consecutive season.

The Headland Rams will play in Class 5A region two during the 2022 season.

This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

The Rams open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Geneva on Friday, August 19 at Hugh Owen Stadium. Last year the Geneva Panthers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in fourth place in Class 4A region two. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Handley by a score of 42-6.

Headland and Geneva have met a total of 31 times on the football field. The Rams have a 10-21-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2009 with Headland winning by a score of 22-20.

Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

In 1969 the two point conversion was adopted for play following a touchdown. Until that time all conversions were worth one point.
