 2022 Preview

Lanett completed the 2021 season with a 10-3 record. Last year Lanett captured the region four title and a number one seed in the Class 2A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Lanett lost in the quarter-finals of the playoffs last season to a good Highland Home team by a score of 15-14.

The Panthers had some tough luck last season as they lost three games, all by less than eight points.

The defense was very stingy last season as Lanett ranked 11th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 9.5 points a game.

Since 2010, Lanett has gone a combined 103-39. Their 72.5% winning percentage ranks 3rd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lanett has managed to compile a record of 180-109. Their 62.0% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class 2A and 83rd in the AHSAA.

The Panthers are led by head coach Clifford Story who is entering his fourteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 109-44 over the past thirteen seasons at Lanett. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won six region crowns with Coach Story. Coach Story has won two state championships at Lanett, the last coming in 2019.

Coach Story's overall record as a head football coach in thirteen season stands at 109-44 (71.2%). His 109 wins rank 50th among active coaches in the AHSAA.

The Lanett Panthers will play in Class 2A region three during the 2022 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 2A but move from region four over to region three.

The Panthers enter the 2022 season having won 7 straight region games. They have won 10 straight games on their home turf at Morgan-Washburn Stadium.

The Panthers should be considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Panthers have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2015 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

The Panthers open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Notasulga on Friday, August 19 at Morgan-Washburn Stadium. Last year the Notasulga Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 10-2 and in second place in Class 1A region four. The Blue Devils lost in the second round of the Class 1A playoffs to Keith by a score of 19-2.

Lanett and Notasulga have met a total of 13 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 13-0-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in 2019 with Lanett winning by a score of 28-13.
