2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Orange Beach completed the 2021 season with a 9-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 2A region one, the Makos earned a spot in the playoffs in 2021. Orange Beach's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Highland Home by a score of 28-7. The Makos enjoyed the first winning season in the school's history in 2021. No team at Orange Beach ever won more games in a season than the nine victories last year. The 345 points scored by the Makos last year were a team record in a single season. The Makos qualified for the playoffs for the first time in the school's history in 2021. The Makos have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2022. The Makos hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach DuBose saw improvement as they won nine games following a 3-6 record in 2020. The defense was very stingy last season as Orange Beach ranked 35th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 14.5 points a game. Orange Beach is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only two seasons. They have managed a record of 12-8 over the past two years. The Makos will be under the direction of new head football coach Jamey DuBose as they enter the 2022 season. Coach DuBose arrives in Oak Grove after serving as the head football coach at Lowndes High School in Georgia the past few seasons. Coach DuBose's overall record as a head football coach in fourteen season stands at 137-40 (77.4%). His 137 wins rank 35th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach DuBose's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of thirteen times and won nine region championships. He has a 31-10 record in the playoffs during his career. The playoff victories rank with the best among active coaches. Coach DuBose won three state championships prior to arriving at Orange Beach, the last coming in 2018 at Central Phenix City. D1 quarterback Chris Pearson will lead the Makos this season as Coach DuBose hopes to build upon last years success behind the talented QB. The Orange Beach Makos will play in Class 4A region one during the 2022 season. The Makos move up in classification to Class 4A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move. The Makos enter the 2022 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak. The Makos will be in the mix for one of the last two playoff spots in region one this season. The Makos open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Pensacola FL on Friday, August 19. This will be the second meeting between Orange Beach and Pensacola FL on the football field. The Makos have a 1-0-0 record against Pensacola FL. They last met in with Orange Beach returns 2A All-State Senior defensive back Chris Pearson. He was named to the first team last season. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
