2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Springville completed the 2021 season with a 4-6 record. Last year Springville finished sixth in Class 6A region seven with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Tigers have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2009 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Tigers last playoff victory came during the 2005 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Springville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Tigers want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.9 points a game. Since 2010, the Springville football program has struggled with a record of 36-83. Over the past 25 seasons, Springville has managed to compile a record of 151-124. Their 55.0% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 5A and 140th in the AHSAA. The Tigers are led by head coach Jon Clements who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 4-6 record in his first season at Springville. The Tigers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Clements. Coach Clements' overall record as a head football coach in three season stands at 17-15 (53.1%). Over the course of his career, Coach Clements' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times . The Springville Tigers will play in Class 5A region six during the 2022 season. The Tigers may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 6A to 5A. They will compete in region six this year. The Tigers have one of the toughest schedules in Class 5A. Their opponents had a combined record of 61-51 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 5A and 111st in the AHSAA. With a little luck and some improvement, the Tigers could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region six this season. Springville has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2009 but hope to return to the post season this year. The Tigers open the 2022 season on the road against non-region opponent Etowah on Thursday, August 18 at Jim Glover Field. Last year the Etowah Blue Devils finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 4A region six. The Blue Devils lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Priceville by a score of 31-14. Springville and Etowah have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Tigers have a 1-1-0 record against the Blue Devils. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
