2022 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Zion Chapel finished the 2021 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Zion Chapel finished eighth in Class 2A region two with a 0-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rebels last playoff victory came during the 1979 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Zion Chapel was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Rebels want to be competitive. They only averaged 18.1 points a game. Zion Chapel struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 40.3 points a game. The Rebels would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Zion Chapel has gone a combined 35-87. Their 28.7% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 2A over the past twelve seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Zion Chapel has not won much with a record of 72-180. Their 29.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 2A and 353rd in the AHSAA. The Rebels will be under the direction of new head football coach Cody Keene Jr. as they enter the 2022 season. Coach Keene Jr. served as the offensive coordinator at Russell County last season. The Zion Chapel Rebels will play in Class 2A region two during the 2022 season. This season, the Rebels will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two. The Rebels open the 2022 season at home against non-region opponent Goshen on Friday, August 26 at Greene Memorial Stadium. Last year the Goshen Eagles finished with an overall record of 1-9 and in seventh place in Class 3A region four. Zion Chapel and Goshen have met a total of 33 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 6-27-0 record against the Eagles. They last met in 2019 with Goshen winning by a score of 48-0. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
