 2023 Preview 


       Jacksonville Christian completed the 2022 season with a 8-2 record. With their 5-1 region record and a place finish in Class 8 Man region , the Thunder earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022.

       It marked the first time since the 2014 season that the Thunder qualified for the playoffs. The Thunder hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Miller saw improvement as they won eight games following a 2-6 record in 2021.

       Since 2010, Jacksonville Christian has gone a combined 46-51. Their 47.4% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 8 Man over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 22 seasons, Jacksonville Christian has managed to compile a record of 108-110. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 8 Man and 11th in the .




       The Thunder are led by head coach Tommy Miller who is entering his twenty-ninth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 137-131 over the past twenty-eight seasons at Jacksonville Christian. Under his direction the Thunder have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Miller. His 159 wins rank 3rd among active coaches in the . Over the course of his career, Coach Miller's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

      

       The Thunder open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Boaz on Friday, August 25 at L.F. Corley Field. Last year the Boaz Pirates finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in fourth place in Class 5A region seven. The Pirates lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Russellville by a score of 63-10.

       This will be the first meeting between Jacksonville Christian and Boaz on the football field.

      

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The first night game played between high school teams in the state occurred on September 23, 1927 when Pike Road and Cloverdale met in the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
