 2023 Preview 


       Addison completed the 2022 season with a 9-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region eight, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Addison reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Lynn by a score of 41-14.

       The high-scoring Addison offense ranked 18th in the AHSAA. They averaged 41.6 points a game.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Addison has gone a combined 109-43. Their 71.7% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Addison has finished a combined 216-78. Their 74.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 1A and 22nd in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.




       The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Smothers who is entering his twelveth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 90-38 over the past eleven seasons at Addison. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of ten times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Smothers.

       If Addison can win ten games this season, Coach Smothers will reach the 100 win milestone.

       Addison enters the 2023 season with a string of 6 consecutive wins on their home field at A.G. Hicks Stadium.

       The Bulldogs are considered one of the favorites for the region eight championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs.

       The Bulldogs open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Winston County on Friday, August 25 at A.G. Hicks Stadium. Last year the Winston County Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in third place in Class 2A region five. The Yellow Jackets lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Fyffe by a score of 35-6.

       Addison and Winston County have met a total of 87 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 51-35-1 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2022 with Winston County winning by a score of 29-8.

      

       The Bulldogs return 1A All-State Junior receiver Jed Wilkins. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.
