Mortimer Jordan finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Mortimer Jordan finished seventh in Class 6A region five with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Mortimer Jordan was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Blue Devils want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.7 points a game. The Blue Devils would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 4-16 record. Since 2010, Mortimer Jordan has gone a combined 87-65. Their 57.2% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 6A over the past thirteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Mortimer Jordan has managed to compile a record of 159-120. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 6A and 112nd in the AHSAA. The Blue Devils are led by head coach Dustan Goode who is entering his tenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 72-38 over the past nine seasons at Mortimer Jordan. Under his direction the Blue Devils have qualified for the playoffs a total of seven times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Goode. Over the course of his career, Coach Goode's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times and won four region championships. This season, the Blue Devils will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region five. QB Garrett Ames will be returning after completing 122 of 264 passes for 1,380 yards last season along with 10 touchdowns. Terence Gaines Jr. will be back this season at running back after rushing for 871 yards and 14 TDs in 2022. The Blue Devils open the 2023 season on the road against non-region opponent Leeds on Friday, August 25 at Homer Smiles Field. Last year the Leeds Greenwave finished with an overall record of 11-1 and in first place in Class 5A region six. The Greenwave lost in the quarter-finals round of the Class 5A playoffs to Ramsay by a score of 26-19. Mortimer Jordan and Leeds have met a total of 47 times on the football field.
