 2023 Preview 


       Ohatchee finished the 2022 season with a disappointing 3-8 record. With their 3-4 region record and a fourth place finish in Class 3A region six, the Indians earned a spot in the playoffs in 2022. Ohatchee's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Gordo by a score of 50-6.

       Ohatchee took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2015. The Indians lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The defense allowed a team record 359 points last season. The Indians hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just three games which followed a 9-3 record in 2021.

       Ohatchee was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Indians want to be competitive. They only averaged 16.9 points a game.

       Since 2010, Ohatchee has gone a combined 77-67. Their 53.5% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 3A over the past thirteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Ohatchee has managed to compile a record of 135-135. Their 50.0% winning percentage ranks 32nd in Class 3A and 188th in the AHSAA.




       The Indians are led by head coach Chris Findley who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-8 record in his first season at Ohatchee. Under his direction the Indians have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Findley.

       Coach Findley will begin the season with just three seniors when the season begins. He has also had to replace several assistant coaches The Indians have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 3A. Their opponents had a combined record of 67-49 last season. That ranks 7th in Class 3A and 37th in the AHSAA.

       The Indians will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region six this season.

      Senior Will Folsom will start at QB for the Indians when the football season opens. He transferred from Donoho during the off season and was a starter there last year.

      One of the seniors returning will be Jesse Baswell. He is versatile and can play most any position on the field for the Indians.

       The Indians open the 2023 season at home against non-region opponent Saks on Thursday, August 24 at Roy C. Owens Field. Last year the Saks Wildcats finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in third place in Class 3A region four. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Trinity by a score of 37-0.

       Ohatchee and Saks have met a total of 8 times on the football field. The Indians have a 5-3-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in 2022 with Saks winning by a score of 41-15.
