 2024 Preview

Addison completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 6-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region eight, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Addison's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Pickens County by a score of 32-20.

The defense was very stingy last season as Addison ranked 20th in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 12.1 points a game.

As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Addison has gone a combined 117-46. Their 71.8% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Addison has finished a combined 215-78. Their 73.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class 1A and 25th in the AHSAA. The Bulldogs have been successful on the football field with twenty-three winning seasons during this time.

Head Coach:
The Bulldogs are led by head coach David Smothers who is entering his thirteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 98-41 over the past twelve seasons at Addison. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of eleven times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Smothers.

If Addison can win two games this season, Coach Smothers will reach the 100 win milestone.

Season Outlook:

The Addison Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region seven during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Bulldogs remain in 1A but move from region eight over to region seven.

The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

It seems the Bulldogs are always a good football team. they have reached the payoffs in thirteen of the past fourteen football season. They have host a first round playoff games in a dozen of those seasons.

It will be a long road season at Addison since they play six games on the road. Their third home game is not until October 18th. As always the expectations will be high in Addison. The success of this season will be dependent upon how well the offensive line plays according to Coach Smothers.

You can almost count on the Addison Bulldogs being around still playing football in mid November each season. The players have a goal of making a deep playoff run in 2024. If they can stay healthy the Bulldogs will be successful this season.

The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region seven this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Players to Watch in 2024:
RB Jed Wilkins will return after rushing for 862 yards and 15 TDs last season as a junior.

Returning Starters:
QB Kaden Dyson, MLB/TE Jordan Hubbert, RB Trennon Burns

Season Opener:
The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Winston County on Friday, August 23 at Malcolm Blake Stadium. Last year the Winston County Yellow Jackets finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region five. The Yellow Jackets ended last season on a positive note with a win over Falkville by a score of 27-6 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

Addison and Winston County have met a total of 88 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 51-36-1 record against the Yellow Jackets. They last met in 2023 with Winston County winning by a score of 14-0.
