 2024 Preview

Aliceville completed the 2023 season with a 5-6 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 2A region five, the Yellow Jackets earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Aliceville's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Lexington by a score of 54-28.

Aliceville took a step backwards last year with their first losing season since 2011. The Yellow Jackets lost as many games as in any season since 2011. The defense allowed a team record 340 points last season. The Yellow Jackets hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just five games which followed a 11-2 record in 2022.

Since 2010, Aliceville has gone a combined 111-56. Their 66.5% winning percentage ranks 8th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Aliceville has finished a combined 206-93. Their 69.0% winning percentage ranks 1st in Class 2A and 45th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Aliceville lost 2A All-State  receiver KeAnthony Wilder to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating was teammate receiver Tyquan Simon.

Coaching Change:
Grady Griffin  departs from Aliceville after three season sporting a 24-12 record and three playoff appearances. He has accepted a job at Pinson Valley as the offensive coordinator.

2024 Head Coach:
    Anthony Sawyer

Season Outlook:

The Aliceville Yellow Jackets will play in Class 2A region five during the 2024 season.

The Yellow Jackets have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 70-46 last season. That ranks 4th in Class 2A and 37th in the AHSAA. Aliceville will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The Yellow Jackets have qualified for the playoffs in each of the past 28 football seasons. The most amazing fact about that streak is that they have accomplished it under the direction of ten different head football coaches.

The Yellow Jackets will face eight teams that qualified for the playoffs in 2023. With the AHSAA realignment region 5 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. Someone will be left out of the post season come November.

The Yellow Jackets could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region five this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. They have managed to qualify for the playoffs every year since 1995 and hopes are high to extend that streak.

Returning Starters:
QB Javian McGraw, QB/CB Javian Mosely, Demario Lawson Jr, MLB Jeremiah Clark

Season Opener:
The Yellow Jackets open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Pickens County on Friday, August 23 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Pickens County Tornados finished with an overall record of 10-4 and in third place in Class 1A region five. The Tornados lost in the semi-finals round of the Class 1A playoffs to Coosa Christian by a score of 21-12.

Aliceville and Pickens County have met a total of 84 times on the football field. The Yellow Jackets have a 42-41-1 record against the Tornados. They last met in 2023 with Pickens County winning by a score of 8-6.
