 2024 Preview 


       Asbury finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Asbury finished sixth in Class 3A region seven with a 1-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Rams have never qualified for a playoff spot and would love to break that streak this season. The Rams have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Asbury averaged scoring just 6.2 points a game. The Rams also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 44.3 points a game.

       The Rams would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record.

       Asbury is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only eight seasons. They have managed a record of 7-73 over the past eight years.

Head Coach:
       The Rams are led by head coach Matt Harris. who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Asbury. The Rams have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Harris..

Season Outlook:

       The Asbury Rams will play in Class 3A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Rams remain in 3A but move from region seven over to region eight.

      

       The Rams enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       The Asbury Rams have not been competitive on the football field since they first played varsity ball back in 2016. They have won just seven games in eight seasons. Second year head coach Matt Harris will working to turn that record around this season.

       Region 8 had a total makeover during the off season. While the AHSAA not only combined Geraldine and Sylvania with Asbury and Brindlee Mountain they moved four schools up in classification from 2A to join them. Fyffe, Collinsville, Holly Pond and Whitesburg Christian will all be united in what is now Region 8.

    This season, the Rams will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region eight.

Season Opener:
       The Rams open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Gaston on Friday, August 23 at Captain Bill Boyd Field. Last year the Gaston Bulldogs finished with an overall record of 2-8 and in seventh place in Class 2A region six. The Bulldogs ended last season on a positive note with a win over Brindlee Mountain by a score of 61-42 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

       Asbury and Gaston have met a total of 7 times on the football field. The Rams have a 1-6-0 record against the Bulldogs. They last met in 2023 with Gaston winning by a score of 34-14.
