2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ashville finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 0-10 record. Last year Ashville finished seventh in Class 4A region six with a 0-6 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. The Bulldogs lost as many games as in any season since 2009. The defense allowed a team record 428 points last season. The Bulldogs have not qualified for the playoffs since the 2005 season and would love to end that streak this year. The Bulldogs last playoff victory came during the 2001 season. They would love to break through this year with a post season win. Ashville was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Bulldogs want to be competitive. They only averaged 17.5 points a game. Ashville struggled on the defensive side of the football last year. The defense found little success in stopping opposing offenses as they gave up an average of 42.8 points a game. The Bulldogs would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, the Ashville football program has struggled with a record of 41-99. Over the past 25 seasons, Ashville has managed to compile a record of 93-162. Their 36.0% winning percentage ranks 52nd in Class 4A and 296th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Bulldogs are led by head coach Kirakias Shepard who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 0-10 record in his first season at Ashville. The Bulldogs have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Shepard. Coach Shepard's overall record as a head football coach in Alabama for one stands at 0-10 (%). Season Outlook: The Ashville Bulldogs will play in Class 4A region six during the 2024 season. The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 14 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season. Ashville football fans would prefer to forget about the 0-10 season last year and move forward. The Bulldogs have not made the playoffs since 2005 but first priority for Coach Shepard will be to simply win some football games. This season, the Bulldogs will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region six. After not winning a single game last year, the goal at Ashville will be to simply win some games. Season Opener: The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Springville on Thursday, August 22 at Ken Logan Stadium. Last year the Springville Tigers finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 5A region six. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs to Guntersville by a score of 31-7. Ashville and Springville have met a total of 58 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 25-29-4 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2019 with Springville winning by a score of 10-7. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
