2024 Preview | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Autauga Academy completed the 2023 season with a 8-4 record. With their 4-3 region record and a fourth place finish in Class AAA region one, the Generals earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Autauga Academy reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Glenwood School by a score of 45-12. The Generals hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Foshee saw improvement as they won eight games following a 3-7 record in 2022. As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Autauga Academy has gone a combined 124-43. Their 74.3% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Autauga Academy has finished a combined 211-82. Their 72.0% winning percentage ranks 7th in Class 1A and 30th in the AHSAA. The Generals have been successful on the football field with twenty-two winning seasons during this time. Coaching Change: Jeremy Carter leaves Autauga Academy with a record of 8-4 after just one season with the program. It was his second stint with the school as he was also the head football coach from 2005-2007. Overall his record sits at 43-35 at Autauga Academy, Billingsley and Prattville Christian in seven seasons as a head football coach. As the Generals venture into the AHSAA in 2024 they will do so under new leadership on the gridiron. 2024 Head Coach: Jeff Foshee was a standout football player at Stanhope Elmore before graduating in 1990. He later played for Gene Stallings and the Alabama Crimson Tide as a walk-on. Foshee played fullback from 1991-94 before graduating in 1995. Foshee returned to Stanhope Elmore in 1996 and became the head football coach in the fall of 2000 succeeding his father. Over the next fifteen seasons, his Mustangs went 105-72. All but four of his teams qualified for the state playoffs and two won region titles. Jimmy Foshee was the head football coach at Stanhope Elmore for 25 years from 1975-99. His Mustangs went 209-83-1 over the course of his career as a head coach. Coach Foshee spent two seasons at Curry in 2019-2020 and accepted a position as the defensive coordinator at Marbury for one season. In 2024 he took over the football program at Autauga Academy. His 105 wins rank 61st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Foshee's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of twelve times and won two region championships. Season Outlook: The Autauga Academy Generals will play in Class 1A region four during the 2024 season. Can the Generals be competitive in the AHSAA after spending the last fifty-five years in the AISA? That question will be answered quickly as they open the season on August 30th against a very good Thorsby team before beginning region play the very next week. The Generals will have an opportunity to prove they belong in the AHSAA this fall when the 2024 football season opens in late August. They will start by playing on the road at Thorsby before opening region play the next week by hosting Billingsley. The Generals should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage. They have reached the playoffs every year since 2002 and will once again be in the hunt for a spot in 2024. Season Opener: The Generals open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Thorsby on Friday, August 30 at Susan Bentley Field. Last year the Thorsby Rebels finished with an overall record of 9-3 and in second place in Class 2A region four. The Rebels lost in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs to Reeltown by a score of 48-14. This will be the second meeting between Autauga Academy and Thorsby on the football field. The Generals have a 1-0-0 record against the Rebels. They last met in with | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
