 2024 Preview

Banks Academy completed the 2023 season with a 11-2 record. Last year Banks Academy captured the region two title and a number one seed in the Class AA playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. It was the first region championship for the Jets. Last year the Banks Academy Jets reached the AISA-AA State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Chambers Academy in the State Championship game 41-14 in Troy.

No team at Banks Academy ever won more games in a season than the eleven victories last year. The 478 points scored by the Jets last year were a team record in a single season. The Jets hope to continue the success they had last season. Coach Watson saw improvement as they won eleven games following a 6-5 record in 2022.

Banks Academy is a relatively new football program having fielded a team only five seasons. They have managed a record of 30-25 over the past five years.

Graduated All-State Players:
Banks Academy lost AISA All-State  linebacker Artrell Cox to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates athlete Issac Smith and athlete Quenterius Chandler.

Head Coach:
The Jets are led by head coach Jermaine Watson who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 17-7 over the past two seasons at Banks Academy. Under his direction the Jets have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won one region crown with Coach Watson.

Season Outlook:

The Banks Academy Jets will play in Class AAA region one during the 2024 season. The Jets move up in classification to Class AAA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

The Jets enter the 2024 season riding a 6 game regular season winning streak.

The Banks Academy Jets are a relatively new football program having just fielded a varsity squad for a total of five season. None the less they have become a winning program and came within one victory last year of claiming their first ever state championship in the AISA.

This year they move up to the AAA classification in the AISA so it may be a little more difficult for them in 2024. The Jets return six starters from last year's team to the offense and six on defense so there will be a lot of experience on both side of the football when they take the field in late August.

Coach Watson told AHSFHS.org ''Our goal is to stay healthy and try to make a deep post season run.''

The Jets enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: Desmond Watson (WR); Gerrell Perry (QB); John Mcghee (OL); Jakevion Cook (OL); Kendrick Sturdivant (OL); La'Javion Swanson (RB)
DEFENSE: Jaden Stevens (DB); Ossie Thomas (LB); Desmond Watson (DB); John Mcghee (DL); Jakevion Cook (DL); Darrien Mauldin (DB)
NEWCOMERS: Jaden Moore (RB); Jeremiah Hayden (DL)

Season Opener:
The Jets open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Flint River Christian GA on Friday, August 23.

This will be the second meeting between Banks Academy and Flint River Christian GA on the football field. The Jets have a 0-1-0 record against Flint River Christian GA. They last met in with
