 2024 Preview 


       Coosa Christian completed the 2023 season with a 9-6 record. With their 3-3 region record and a third place finish in Class 1A region seven, the Conquerors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. The Conquerors won four consecutive playoff games to reach the Class 1A State Championship game only to fall just short of claiming a title. They were defeated by Leroy at the Alabama Super Seven 28-21 in Birmingham.

       The 560 points scored by the Conquerors last year were a team record in a single season.

       The defense was very stingy last season as Coosa Christian ranked 2nd in the AHSAA. The defense allowed only 6.5 points a game.

       Since 2010, the Coosa Christian football program has struggled with a record of 55-97.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Coosa Christian has managed to compile a record of 109-152. Their 42.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 2A and 277th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Conquerors are led by head coach Mark OBryant who is entering his fifth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 25-24 over the past four seasons at Coosa Christian. Under his direction the Conquerors have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach OBryant. Over the course of his career, Coach OBryant's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of four times .

Season Outlook:

       The Coosa Christian Conquerors will play in Class 2A region six during the 2024 season. The Conquerors move up in classification to Class 2A. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

       The Conquerors have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 2A. Their opponents had a combined record of 66-50 last season. That ranks 8th in Class 2A and 70th in the AHSAA.

       The Conquerors enter the 2024 season riding a 5 game regular season winning streak. Coosa Christian has won 7 consecutive region games. They have won 6 straight games on their home turf at Phillip Ellen Stadium.

       While the Conquerors should be able to navigate the region schedule it will be the non-region opponents that will test them the most this season. They start off against Pierce County, Georgia who won a state championship there last year. Then they take on 6A Pell City.

       In the middle of the season they host 2A state champions Fyffe and close the regular season on October 24th by hosting Tuscaloosa Academy. Back-to-back nine wins seasons at Coosa Christian are the best since they joined the AHSAA in 2005. This year's team is loaded with talent and will be looking to make a championship run in 2024.

       They came up a little short last year losing to Leroy in the 1A championship game 28-21. They expect nothing short of returning to the Super 7 in December. The Conquerors return about 16 starters from last year's team that will have more juniors than seniors this year.

       Coach O'Bryant told AHSFHS.org about this year's squad at Coosa Christian ''We have a great group returning on both sides of the ball, really looking to have a great year.'' He said at media days they have about 35 players on the varsity squad.

    The Conquerors are considered one of the favorites for the region six championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. Don't be surprised if the Conquerors are making another deep run into the playoffs.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB John David Justus will be returning for his senior season after completing 98-of-194 passes for 1,471 yards and 15 TDs last season.

      RB Kanon Wilson will also return after rushing for 616 yards and 9 TDs last season as a junior. RB Joseph East will also be back after rushing for 612 yards and 10 TDs as a sophomore in 2023.

      Junior LB Clete O'Bryant had 124 tackles including 23 for loss last season and will be returning this year.

       The Conquerors open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Pierce County GA on Friday, August 23.

       This will be the second meeting between Coosa Christian and Pierce County GA on the football field. The Conquerors have a 0-1-0 record against Pierce County GA. They last met in with
