 2024 Preview

Elmore County completed the 2023 season with a 8-3 record. With their 3-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 5A region four, the Panthers earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Elmore County's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Faith Academy by a score of 31-7.

The Panthers won as many games as in any season since 2008.

Since 2010, Elmore County has gone a combined 62-82. Their 43.1% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 5A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Elmore County has managed to compile a record of 131-135. Their 49.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 5A and 212nd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Panthers are led by head coach Kyle Caldwell who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 15-7 over the past two seasons at Elmore County. Under his direction the Panthers have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have not won a region crown with Coach Caldwell.

Season Outlook:

The Elmore County Panthers will play in Class 5A region four during the 2024 season.

Elmore County will face six opponents that reached the playoffs last season.

The eight wins last season were the most at Elmore County since the 2008 football season. The offense rolled all season until Faith Academy derailed them in the first round of the playoffs.

With the AHSAA realignment region 4 has six teams that qualified for the playoffs last year. The odd thing is that not a single one of them won a playoff game. They open the season with three tough opponents in Dadeville, Tallassee and Carroll before jumping into region play on September 13th.

The Panthers return just four players on offense and will open the season with five returning players on defense. This will be a young team at Elmore County but Coach Caldwell is building something special there and the Panthers will find themselves back in the hunt for one of the four playoff spots in region four.

Coach Caldwell told AHSFHS.org ''Losing 10 starters on offense. Returning a stout defense. Added a tougher non-region schedule to hopefully prepare the team for a playoff run.''

The Panthers should be in contention for a playoff spot in region four this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE:Justin Brooks-TE, Mykale Williams-OL, Colby Blackwell-OL, Parker Hobbs-RB/FB
DEFENSE: Jackson Mann-ILB, Caleb Spivey-DE, Luke Reinart-DE, Conor Pike-OLB, Tyler Payton-DB
NEWCOMERS: Eli Thames-RB, Blake Shaw-DB, Seth McGhee-WR/DB, Hayden Jones-WR, Braylon Jackson-OL/DL

Season Opener:
The Panthers open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Dadeville on Friday, August 23 at Tiger Stadium. Last year the Dadeville Tigers finished with an overall record of 4-5 and in third place in Class 3A region four. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Thomasville by a score of 28-0.

Elmore County and Dadeville have met a total of 56 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 20-36-0 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2021 with Dadeville winning by a score of 47-7.
