 2024 Preview 


       J.U. Blacksher finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-7 record. Last year J.U. Blacksher just missed making the playoffs with a fifth place finish in Class 2A region one with a 1-4 region record.

       Since 2010, J.U. Blacksher has gone a combined 60-88. Their 40.5% winning percentage ranks 38th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, J.U. Blacksher has managed to compile a record of 108-156. Their 41.0% winning percentage ranks 43rd in Class 2A and 282nd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Wesley Sims who is entering his fifteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 60-88 over the past fourteen seasons at J.U. Blacksher. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs a total of eight times. They have won one region crown with Coach Sims.

Season Outlook:

       The J.U. Blacksher Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region one during the 2024 season.

      

       The Bulldogs enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 7 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

       The Bulldogs missed the playoffs last season after punching their ticket the previous four years. Region One will be competitive with any of a number of teams fighting for that top spot in 2024.

    The Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. J.U. Blacksher came up short of the playoffs last year but are optimistic of a return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Marengo on Friday, August 23 at Panther Stadium. Last year the Marengo Panthers finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region three. The Panthers closed out the regular season with a loss to Flomaton by a score of 63-0.

       J.U. Blacksher and Marengo have met a total of 17 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 11-6-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2015 with J.U. Blacksher winning by a score of 47-22.
