Kinston finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 2-8 record. Last year Kinston finished eighth in Class 1A region two with a 1-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Since 2010, Kinston has gone a combined 57-90. Their 38.8% winning percentage ranks 37th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Kinston has not won much with a record of 83-173. Their 32.0% winning percentage ranks 49th in Class 1A and 345th in the AHSAA. Head Coach: The Bulldogs are led by head coach Rudy Free who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 19-32 over the past five seasons at Kinston. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Free. Over the course of his career, Coach Free's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of one time . Season Outlook: The Kinston Bulldogs will play in Class 1A region two during the 2024 season. After a promising 8-4 season in 2021 the Bulldogs have won just six games the past two years missing the playoffs each time. Can they get things turned around in 2024 and get back to the post season? The Bulldogs could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region two this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Kinston missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2024. Players to Watch in 2024: RB Colby Tew will return after rushing for 725 yards and 5 TDs last season as a junior. Season Opener: The Bulldogs open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Zion Chapel on Friday, August 23 at Greene Memorial Stadium. Last year the Zion Chapel Rebels finished with an overall record of 5-5 and in fifth place in Class 2A region two. Kinston and Zion Chapel have met a total of 48 times on the football field.
