 2024 Preview 


       Linden completed the 2023 season with a 6-3 record. With their 4-1 region record and a second place finish in Class 1A region three, the Patriots earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Linden's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Brantley by a score of 42-17.

       As one of the best football programs in the state since 2010, Linden has gone a combined 136-38. Their 78.2% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Linden has finished a combined 227-73. Their 76.0% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class 1A and 22nd in the AHSAA. The Patriots have been successful on the football field with twenty-four winning seasons during this time. Their last losing season was 1999.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Linden lost 1A All-State  athlete Roderick Brown to graduation. He was named to the first team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Patriots are led by head coach Travis Lockett who is entering his sixth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 41-15 over the past five seasons at Linden. Under his direction the Patriots have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Lockett. Coach Lockett led to a state championship in 2020.

Season Outlook:

       The Linden Patriots will play in Class 1A region three during the 2024 season.

      

       Linden only graduated two players from last year's squad so look for the Patriots to put a competitive team on the field once late August arrives in west Alabama. Returning players at quarterback, running back and receiver will give them plenty of experience on offense.

       Region 3 is one of the weakest in 1A so what do the Patriots do to gain a few quality opponents to get that needed experience once the playoffs roll around in November? Coach Lockett goes out and schedules 4A Fultondale and a very good football program in Chipley, Florida to open the 2024 season.

       Linden has qualified for the playoffs every season since 2007 and has only lost in the first round twice during that run. One of those two times was last season when they fell to Brantley in the opening round. Do not look for the same thing to happen this fall.

       The Patriots will be loaded in 2024 with nine starters returning from last year's squad on offense and ten on defense.

    The Patriots are considered one of the favorites for the region three championship this season and a home game in the first round of the playoffs. The Patriots have successfully qualified for the playoffs every year since 2006 and expect to be included again when November rolls around.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      QB Donald Walker will be returning for his senior season after completing 26-of-47 passes for 581 yards and 4 TDs last season.

Season Opener:
       The Patriots open the 2024 season on the road against non-region opponent Fultondale on Friday, August 23 at Wildcats Field. Last year the Fultondale Wildcats finished with an overall record of 4-7 and in third place in Class 4A region six. The Wildcats lost in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs to Deshler by a score of 43-27.

       This will be the second meeting between Linden and Fultondale on the football field. The Patriots have a 0-1-0 record against the Wildcats. They last met in with

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Alabama School for the Deaf won Deaf School National Championships in 1971, 1987, 1991, 2000, 2001 and 2002.
