 2024 Preview 


       Lowndes Academy completed the 2023 season with a 13-0 record. Last year Lowndes Academy captured the region one title and a number one seed in the Class A playoffs. They finished region play with a 4-0 record. The Lowndes Academy Rebels claimed the AISA-A State Championship by defeating Wilcox Academy 20-7 in Troy.

       No team at Lowndes Academy ever won more games in a season than the thirteen victories last year. The 541 points scored by the Rebels last year were a team record in a single season.

       Over the past two seasons the Rebels have Finished 24-2 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Lowndes Academy has gone a combined 89-68. Their 56.7% winning percentage ranks 4th in Class AA over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Lowndes Academy has managed to compile a record of 159-122. Their 57.0% winning percentage ranks 5th in Class AA and 11th in the AISA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       The Rebels lost a ton of talent to graduation off the 2023 squad. Replacing these players will be a key to another successful season. Lowndes Academy lost AISA All-State  offensive lineman Pierson Hill to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates linebacker Cooper Dansby, defensive back Scott Stinson, athlete Clayton Hussey, athlete Kasen Dismukes and linebacker Jase Howard.

Head Coach:
       The Rebels are led by head coach Shane Moye who is entering his seventh season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 50-22 over the past six seasons at Lowndes Academy. Under his direction the Rebels have qualified for the playoffs a total of five times. They have won three region crowns with Coach Moye. Coach Moye has won three state championships at Lowndes Academy, the last coming in 2023.

Season Outlook:

       The Lowndes Academy Rebels will play in Class AA region one during the 2024 season. The Rebels move up in classification to Class AA. They may find the going slightly tougher with the move.

      

       The Rebels enter the 2024 season riding a 19 game winning streak. They have also won 13 consecutive regular season games. Lowndes Academy has won 17 consecutive region games. They have won 8 straight games on their home turf at Memorial Stadium.

      



    The Rebels enter the season with expectations of not only a region crown but will be contending for a trip to the state championship game. They are considered one of the favorites not only in their region but to play in the AISA title game in November.

Season Opener:
       The Rebels open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Southern Academy on Friday, August 30 at Memorial Stadium. Last year the Southern Academy Cougars finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class A region one. The Cougars lost in the semi-finals round of the Class A playoffs to Wilcox Academy by a score of 49-12.

       Lowndes Academy and Southern Academy have met a total of 18 times on the football field. The Rebels have a 10-8-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2023 with Lowndes Academy winning by a score of 29-0.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
