 2024 Preview

Lynn completed the 2023 season with a 10-2 record. Last year Lynn captured the region five title and a number one seed in the Class 1A playoffs. They finished region play with a 7-0 record. Lynn reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Coosa Christian by a score of 28-6.

The 509 points scored by the Bears last year were a team record in a single season.

The high-scoring Lynn offense ranked 13th in the AHSAA. They averaged 42.4 points a game.

The Bears defense dominated most opponents as they ranked 27th in the AHSAA. The defense gave up just 13.5 points a game.

Over the past two seasons the Bears have Finished 21-4 and will be looking to continue that winning tradition. Since 2010, Lynn has gone a combined 85-67. Their 55.9% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 1A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Lynn has managed to compile a record of 153-121. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 15th in Class 1A and 118th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
Lynn lost 1A All-State  offensive lineman Ryan Talley to graduation. He was named to the first team last season. Also graduating were teammates athlete Cale Tittle and receiver Logan Madison.

Head Coach:
The Bears are led by head coach Mark Hastings who is entering his fourth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 23-12 over the past three seasons at Lynn. Under his direction the Bears have qualified for the playoffs a total of two times. They have won two region crowns with Coach Hastings. His 149 wins rank 36th among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Hastings' teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fifteen times and won four region championships.

Coach Hastings needs only one win this season to reach the 150 win milestone.

Season Outlook:

The Lynn Bears will play in Class 1A region five during the 2024 season.

The Bears enter the 2024 season riding a 8 game regular season winning streak. They have won 12 straight games on their home turf at Posey Field.

Top priority this fall will be to find a replacement for graduated starting quarterback Cale Tittle and the 2,177 yards and 26 touchdowns he threw for last season. He also ran for another 1,257 yards and 27 TDs.

The Lynn Bears have put together back-to-back ten win seasons for the first time in school history under Coach Mark Hastings. He has done a great job of build the football program at Lynn and now can work toward maintaining the program in the future.

Coach Hasting told us. ''We have most of our OL back along with a couple of playmakers. QB/RB/Rec all gone, if we can distribute the ball we have a chance to score points. Defense I think we can be strong in the front, secondary has a lot of inexperience.''

He believes the Bears will be better on defense and will use more formations to spread the ball around on offense. He thinks they will be pretty good up front and will continue to be on the right track.

The Bears should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Players to Watch in 2024:
TE Braylen Roberts will be returning for his senior season after catching 30 passes for 605 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Returning Starters:
WR/DB Dylan Dunagon, WR Austin Dodd, WR/FS Will Davis, DE/G Julian Scott, WR/FS Jason Byrd, TE/LB Chip Crowe

Season Opener:
The Bears open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Meek on Friday, August 23 at Posey Field. Last year the Meek Tigers finished with an overall record of 6-5 and in third place in Class 1A region eight. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs to South Lamar by a score of 32-14.

Lynn and Meek have met a total of 78 times on the football field. The Bears have a 48-28-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2021 with Meek winning by a score of 46-15.
