 2024 Preview 


       Morgan Academy finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record.

       The Senators lost as many games as in any season since 2014. The defense allowed a team record 415 points last season. The Senators hope to rebound after a down year. Last season they struggled winning just one game which followed a 7-5 record in 2022.

       Since 2010, Morgan Academy has gone a combined 71-82. Their 46.4% winning percentage ranks 9th in Class AAA over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Morgan Academy has managed to compile a record of 158-124. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 6th in Class AAA and 10th in the AISA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Morgan Academy lost AISA All-State  defensive back Milton Hand to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

2024 Head Coach:
    Jacob Webb  Over the course of his career, Coach Webb's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won four region championships.

Season Outlook:

       The Morgan Academy Senators will play in Class AAA region two during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Senators remain in AAA but move from region one over to region two.

      

       The Senators enter the 2024 season in the middle of a 8 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

      

    This season, the Senators will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in region two.

Season Opener:
       The Senators open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Southern Academy on Friday, August 23 at Morgan Field. Last year the Southern Academy Cougars finished with an overall record of 7-5 and in second place in Class A region one. The Cougars lost in the semi-finals round of the Class A playoffs to Wilcox Academy by a score of 49-12.

       Morgan Academy and Southern Academy have met a total of 14 times on the football field. The Senators have a 6-8-0 record against the Cougars. They last met in 2021 with Morgan Academy winning by a score of 36-12.

  


Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
