 2024 Preview

Pike Liberal Arts finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 3-6 record. Last year Pike Liberal Arts finished in Class Ind region with a 0-0 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Pike Liberal Arts was inconsistent offensively last year and they need some improvement if the Patriots want to be competitive. They only averaged 19.1 points a game.

Since 2010, Pike Liberal Arts has gone a combined 84-69. Their 54.9% winning percentage ranks 19th in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Pike Liberal Arts has managed to compile a record of 146-124. Their 54.0% winning percentage ranks 22nd in Class 2A and 169th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
The Patriots are led by head coach William Moguel who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 3-6 record in his first season at Pike Liberal Arts. The Patriots have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Moguel.

Season Outlook:

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots will play in Class 2A region three during the 2024 season. The Patriots may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class Ind to 2A. They will compete in region three this year.

The Patriots enter the 2024 season having won 6 straight region games.

It's been sort of a roller coaster ride for the Patriots the past four seasons. They won two consecutive championships in the AISA in 2020-21 before playing as an independent the past two years. Now they are members of the AHSAA and will compete in 2A Region 3 this year.

While they have not found much success the past two years finishing both seasons 3-6 the outlook should be more optimistic in 2024. Region 3 has the likes of Reeltown and Goshen fighting for that top spot but Pike could sneak in and grab one of the four playoff spots.

The Patriots return nine players who were considered starters on the offense in 2023. They will also welcome back seven to the defense when they open the season against New Brockton on August 23rd.

The Patriots could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region three this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Pike Liberal Arts missed the playoffs the past couple of seasons but hope to return to the post season in 2024.

Returning Starters:
OFFENSE: Dawson Bradford; Kade Brookins; Jackson Mitchell; Michael Vaughn; Jack Baggett; Coy Bell; Brayden Pyron; Pruitt Vaughan; Tucker Vaughan
DEFENSE: Rhodes Baker; Wilson Cotton; Pruitt Vaughan; Jack Baggett; Kade Brookins; Jackson Booth; Jackson Mitchell
NEWCOMERS: Jackson Bowen; Cade May; Dalton Jordan; Chase Deboer; Jacob Bowen

Season Opener:
The Patriots open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent New Brockton on Friday, August 23 at Dewight Ward Field. Last year the New Brockton Gamecocks finished with an overall record of 3-7 and in sixth place in Class 3A region two. The Gamecocks ended last season on a positive note with a win over Northside Methodist Academy by a score of 27-14 after failing to gain a playoff spot.

This will be the second meeting between Pike Liberal Arts and New Brockton on the football field. The Patriots have a 1-0-0 record against the Gamecocks. They last met in with
