 2024 Preview 


       Satsuma completed the 2023 season with a 5-5 record. Last year Satsuma finished sixth in Class 4A region one with a 2-5 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Gators improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2019. The Gators have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024.

       Since 2010, Satsuma has gone a combined 49-92. Their 34.8% winning percentage ranks 53rd in Class 4A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Satsuma has not won much with a record of 77-175. Their 31.0% winning percentage ranks 58th in Class 4A and 349th in the AHSAA.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Satsuma lost 4A All-State  defensive lineman Tristen Abrams to graduation. He was named to the second team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Gators are led by head coach Rodney Jordan who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-14 over the past two seasons at Satsuma. The Gators have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Jordan.

Season Outlook:

       The Satsuma Gators will play in Class 4A region one during the 2024 season.

      

       Satsuma saw major improvement last season and finished with a 5-5 record just missing out on a playoff spot. Region one is difficult with the likes of Jackson, St. Michael and now Mobile Christian in the mix for a playoff spot.

       Can the Gators win a couple more games in 2024 and grab one of those elusive playoff spots in 2024? Time will tell.

       Coach Jordan told us about this year's team ''Looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and improve on last season's 5-5 record after going a combined 2-18 the previous two seasons.''

    The Gators could find themselves challenging for one of the playoff spots for region one this season with a few breaks and a little improvement. Satsuma has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Gators open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent McIntosh on Friday, August 23 at Copeland Field. Last year the McIntosh Demons finished with an overall record of 2-7 and in fifth place in Class 1A region one.

       Satsuma and McIntosh have met a total of 2 times on the football field. The Gators have a 2-0-0 record against the Demons. They last met in 2023 with Satsuma winning by a score of 26-6.

Morris Higginbotham coached three different teams to divisional state championships in the 1950s. He won titles at Walnut Grove in 1952, West Blocton in 1955 and Enterprise in 1960.
