 2024 Preview 


       Smiths Station finished the 2023 season with a disappointing 1-9 record. Last year Smiths Station finished eighth in Class 7A region two with a 1-7 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The offense struggled putting points on the score board as Smiths Station averaged scoring just 10.1 points a game. The Panthers also struggled on the defensive side of the football as they found little success in stopping opposing offenses and allowed an average of 43.6 points a game.

       The Panthers would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Smiths Station has gone a combined 55-89. Their 38.2% winning percentage ranks 27th in Class 7A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Smiths Station has managed to compile a record of 101-154. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 25th in Class 7A and 293rd in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Panthers are led by head coach Bryant Garrison who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 1-9 record in his first season at Smiths Station. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Garrison.

Season Outlook:

       The Smiths Station Panthers will play in Class 7A region two during the 2024 season.

       The Panthers have one of the toughest overall schedules in Class 7A. Their opponents had a combined record of 64-47 last season. That ranks 9th in Class 7A and 61st in the AHSAA.

       The Panthers are 4-26 the past three seasons and have not qualified for the playoffs since 2013. Playing in a very tough region does not help their chances.

       The Panthers will be without thousand yard rusher Quenton Brooks who graduated in the spring. In 2024 the Panthers will face seven teams that qualified for the playoffs last year.

    The Panthers will need to win a few more games this fall if they hope to grab one of the four playoff slots in region two this season. After just a single win last year, Smiths Station will be hopeful of winning a few more games this season.

Season Opener:
       The Panthers open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent Shaw GA on Thursday, August 22 at Panther Stadium.

       Smiths Station and Shaw GA have met a total of 5 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 3-2-0 record against Shaw GA. They last met in 2011 with Shaw GA winning by a score of 20-7.
