 2024 Preview 


       Susan Moore completed the 2023 season with a 6-5 record. With their 4-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 3A region seven, the Bulldogs earned a spot in the playoffs in 2023. Susan Moore's season came to an end in the first round of the playoffs when they fell to Geraldine by a score of 56-14.

       The Bulldogs improved in 2023 with their first winning season since 2019. It marked the first time since the 2019 season that the Bulldogs qualified for the playoffs.

       Since 2010, Susan Moore has gone a combined 69-78. Their 46.9% winning percentage ranks 33rd in Class 2A over the past fourteen seasons.

       Over the past 25 seasons, Susan Moore has managed to compile a record of 152-122. Their 56.0% winning percentage ranks 18th in Class 2A and 136th in the AHSAA.

Head Coach:
       The Bulldogs are led by head coach Wes Patterson who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-5 record in his first season at Susan Moore. The Bulldogs saw improvement from a 3-7 record the season before coach Patterson arrived. Under his direction the Bulldogs have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Patterson.

Season Outlook:

       The Susan Moore Bulldogs will play in Class 2A region six during the 2024 season. The Bulldogs may find the schedule slightly easier this season with the move down in classification from Class 3A to 2A. They will compete in region six this year.

      

       The Bulldogs reached the playoffs last year after missing out on the post season the previous three years under first year head coach Wes Patterson. This year they will drop in classification to 2A, a place they have not been since 1983 when there were just four classifications.

       They will be joined in Region 6 by Coosa Christian who is making the jump up from 1A. Look for Susan Moore to be in the mix for one of the four available playoff spots with Southeastern, West End and Coosa Christian.

       Coach Patterson said about the Susan Moore Bulldogs this season, ''We will be a young football team but have been working extremely hard in the offseason to prepare for a tough schedule. ''

    The Bulldogs should be in contention for a playoff spot in region six this season. Hosting a first round playoff game on their home turf would be an advantage.

Players to Watch in 2024:
      RB Drew Justice will be back after rushing for 542 yards and 7 TDs last season.

Season Opener:
       The Bulldogs open the 2024 season at home against non-region opponent J.B. Pennington on Friday, August 23 at Larry Patterson Field. Last year the J.B. Pennington Tigers finished with an overall record of 8-3 and in second place in Class 3A region seven. The Tigers lost in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs to Piedmont by a score of 44-14.

       Susan Moore and J.B. Pennington have met a total of 80 times on the football field. The Bulldogs have a 44-34-2 record against the Tigers. They last met in 2023 with J.B. Pennington winning by a score of 28-7.
