 2024 Preview 


       Woodville completed the 2023 season with a 6-4 record. Last year Woodville finished sixth in Class 1A region seven with a 2-4 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

       The Panthers enjoyed the first winning season in the school's history in 2023. No team at Woodville ever won more games in a season than the six victories last year. The 289 points scored by the Panthers last year were a team record in a single season. The Panthers have never won a playoff game in the school's history. They would like to break through and pick up that first post season victory in 2024.

       Since 2010, the Woodville football program has struggled with a record of 40-104.

       Over the past 18 seasons, Woodville has not won much with a record of 42-142. Their 23.0% winning percentage ranks 56th in Class 1A and 377th in the AHSAA. The Panthers have struggled on the football field with only one winning season during this time.

Graduated All-State Players:
       Woodville lost 1A All-State  quarterback Sam Peek to graduation. He was named to the honorable mention team last season.

Head Coach:
       The Panthers are led by head coach Joel Poole who is entering his second season at the helm. His team finished with a 6-4 record in his first season at Woodville. The Panthers saw improvement from a 2-8 record the season before coach Poole arrived. The Panthers have yet to reach the playoffs under his direction. They have not won a region crown with Coach Poole. Over the course of his career, Coach Poole's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of six times and won one region championship.

Season Outlook:

       The Woodville Panthers will play in Class 1A region eight during the 2024 season. Following realignment, the Panthers remain in 1A but move from region seven over to region eight.

      

       The Woodville Panthers set a school record last season by posting a 6-4 record. It was the most wins in their short history and their first winning season. The Panthers just missed out on a playoff spot by losing a three way tiebreaker in Region 7.

       Sophomore quarterback Kaden Franklin will likely lead the offense when the season opens. The Panthers have a good group out for fall practice and Coach Poole anticipates building on last year's successful season.

    The Panthers have a good shot at one of the last two playoff slots in region eight this season. Woodville has failed to qualify for the playoffs since 2020 but hope to return to the post season this year.

Season Opener:
       The Panthers open the 2024 season against non-region opponent North Sand Mountain on Friday, August 23 Last year the North Sand Mountain Bison finished with an overall record of 5-6 and in fourth place in Class 2A region seven. The Bison lost in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs to Locust Fork by a score of 54-7.

       Woodville and North Sand Mountain have met a total of 4 times on the football field. The Panthers have a 0-4-0 record against the Bison. They last met in 2020 with North Sand Mountain winning by a score of 34-6.
