Week 1

The 2013 season begins this week. Here are a few tidbits entering the 2013 season.

   *  Brantley enters the season with a 15 game winning streak which leads the AHSAA school. With a new coach, the Bulldogs will be looking to return to Tuscaloosa come December. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 32 game winning streak. Coach Bobby Carr will be gunning for a fifth consecutive championship. Edgewood still has a way to go to reach the AISA record set by Pickens Academy of 44 wins in a row.

   *   Central Hayneville hopes to break a streak on the other end of the spectrum. The Lions have lost 51 consecutive games. The streak is the third longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row. Central has also lost 37 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  The Tanner Rattlers have won 35 straight regular season games. They are well short of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few years ago. Tanner also has a streak of 28 consecutive region wins in a row. In the AISA, Monroe Academy matches that number.

   *  Dadeville and Tanner have both won 26 consecutive home games.

   *   Trinity will try to extend their streak of 31 straight winning seasons. The Wildcats last suffered through a losing season way back in 1981 when they finished with a 4-6 record.

   *   T.R. Miller hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their state record of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 329 games without being shutout.

   *   The Enterprise Wildcats have won 16 season openers in a row since opening the 1996 season with a 13-21 lose to Bay High School in Panama City, Florida. Enterprise has not lost a season opener to a school from Alabama since 1991 when they fell to Gadsden 0-26.

   *   The Luverne Tigers, under new head coach Mike Dubose, will be working hard to extend their string of qualifying for the playoffs to 31 consecutive seasons.
