Week 2

Region play got underway for many teams over the weekend. Here are a few tidbits from the second week of high school football action.

   *  Hoover continued their winning ways with a 35-0 shutout of Hueytown. The Bucs lead the AHSAA schools with a seventeen game winning streak. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 34 game winning streak after defeating Springwood 50-18 last week.

   *   The Central Hayneville Lions have lost 53 consecutive games following their 23-0 loss to Highland Home. Central has also lost 38 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  Piedmont continues their regular season winning streak with a string of 25 games following a 55-0 thrashing of Ashville. They are joined by Edgewood Academy with a streak of 25 games in the AISA.

   *  Tanner got back on the winning track with a 35-14 win over Red Bay and maintains their streak of 29 consecutive region wins. In the AISA, Monroe Academy continues a streak of 28 games.

   *  Maplesville leads for most consecutive home wins in a row with a streak of 28 games. Dadeville (27), Hoover (27) and Tanner (26) are close behind.

   *  T.R. Miller Tigers continued their string of 331 games without being shutout.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least 30 points in a game for an amazing 29 games in a row. That is an all-tine state record. The longest streak in the AHSAA is held by Sweet Water between 2007-08 with a streak of 22 games.



Did you know?

   *  Falkville outscored their first two opponents by a combined score of 138-0 by beating Southeastern 49-0 and Shades Mountain Christian 69-0.



Milestones

   *  According to our records, Benjamin Russell won their 600th game playing high school football. Their overall record is 599-326-26. They join a group of only six other school to reach that milestone.

   *  Jamie Riggs reached the 275 win mark in T.R. Miller's 22-7 win over Opp.

   *  Glenn Vickery led Daphne to a 36-6 victory over Baldwin County and won his 225th  game as a head football coach.

   *  The Demopolis Tigers beat Citronelle to give coach Tom Causey his 100th win as a head football coach. 

   *  Richard White also reached the 100 win mark when the Dadeville Tigers outscored Elmore County 49-34 on Friday night.

* Pope John Paul II set a team record for points scored in a game by losing to Randolph 31-58.

* Shades Mountain Christian set a team record for margin of defeat in a game by losing to Falkville 0-69.

* New Brockton set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by defeating Calhoun 60-20.
* Pope John Paul II set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by losing to Randolph 31-58.
* Randolph set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by defeating Pope John Paul II 58-31.
