Week 3


 

The 2014 season is well underway. Here are a few tidbits from the third week of action.

  *   Head football coach Buddy Anderson at Vestavia Hills is still tied with Waldon Tucker for the most wins in Alabama high school football history with 309 after his team lost to Oak Mountain 14-7. 

  *    The new teams are making statements. Helena is 2-0 after defeating Wilcox Central 42-0 on Friday. Chickasaw got their initial win with a 37-8 victory over McIntosh.

  *   Edgewood Academy is on an amazing streak. They have scores more than 20 points in 46 consecutive games. The state record is held by none other than Hoover with a string of 56 games.

  *   Spanish Fort extended their AHSAA leading consecutive game winning streak to 27 straight.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 47 game winning streak.

  *   Butler opened the season with another loss and the Rebels have lost 31 consecutive games. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

  *   Bullock County has also lost 33 consecutive region games in a row.

  *   Maplesville opened the season with a win and extend their regular season winning streak to 17 games. They are tied with Spanish Fort for the AHSAA lead. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 35 straight victories.

  *   Tanner has a string of 36 consecutive games in which they have come out a winner in region play. Monroe Academy leads the AISA with a streak of 37 consecutive region wins.

  *   Maplesville has won 36 consecutive home games after winning on the road against Sunshine 55-0.

  *   Trinity, off to an 0-3 start with a tough schedule, will try to extend their streak of 32 straight winning seasons. The Wildcats last suffered through a losing season way back in 1981 when they finished with a 4-6 record. They last opened a season 0-3 in 1979.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 345 games without being shutout.

  *   Sweet Water joins our list of 500 win teams. The Bulldogs come in with a record of 500-335-24.

  *   Woodville defeated Jacksonville Christian 51-21 to open the season 2-0 for the first time in team history. It is also the first time the team has won back-to-back games in the short nine years they have fielded a football team.

  *   Coach Jamie Riggs passed Stave Savarese for 5th place on the all-time wins list with 288 wins.

  *   Coach Jeff Foshee at Stanhope Elmore picked up win number 99 when the Mustangs beat Northview 31-28 on Friday.

  *   Lastly, Vina broke a 23 game losing streak when they defeated Waterloo 40-6 on Friday night.

 * Gardendale set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Huffman 73-41.
 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating South Montgomery Academy 43-0.
 * Tarrant set a team record for points scored in a game by defeating Sumiton Christian 66-6.

Points allowed in a game

 * John Carroll set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Walker 14-64.

Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

* Huffman set a team record for points scored by both teams in a game by losing to Gardendale 41-73.

Teams with current school record winning streaks

 * Edgewood Academy has won a team record 47 consecutive games since 10/28/2010.
 * Spanish Fort has won a team record 27 consecutive games since 10/11/2012.

Teams with current school record losing streaks

 * Butler has lost a team record 31 consecutive games since 9/1/2011.
 * Red Level has lost a team record 28 consecutive games since 9/23/2011.
 * Lyman Ward has lost a team record 24 consecutive games since 10/14/2011.
 * Carbon Hill has lost a team record 23 consecutive games since 8/31/2012.
 * West Morgan has lost a team record 20 consecutive games since 9/14/2012.
 * West End Walnut Grove has lost a team record 13 consecutive games since 11/2/2012.
 * Heritage Christian has lost a team record 11 consecutive games since 8/13/2010.






Great Moments in Alabama High School Football History

The Tuscaloosa Black Bears were considered one of the best programs in the nation from 1925-1931. Their record over that span was an amazing 61-0-3.
