Week 8


 

Teams are making a final charge toward the playoffs with just three regular season games remaining.  Here are a few tidbits from the eighth week of action.

  *   Coach Terry Curtis, football coach of the UMS-Wright Bulldogs won his 250th game as a head coach.  His overall record in 26 years at Shaw, Murphy and UMS-Wright stands at 250-77.

  *   Coach Mike McCombs, the head coach at Bibb County collected his 100th win as a head football coach in 14 seasons at six different schools. Bibb County defeated Montevallo 56-20 for the victory.

  *   Clay-Chalkville defeated Shades Valley 59-27 on Saturday. The Cougars have a string of games where they have scored at least 20 points that has reached 54 straight. The state record is held by Hoover with a string of 56 games.

  *   Edgewood Academy added to their impressive streak. They have scored more than 20 points in 51 consecutive games following a 63-6 victory over Northside Methodist.

  *   Spanish Fort extended their AHSAA leading consecutive game winning streak of 31 straight victories.

  *   Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 52 game winning streak.

  *   Butler suffered another loss. The Rebels have now lost 36 consecutive games after falling to Etowah 60-6. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

  *   Bullock County has also lost 37 consecutive region games following a 42-0 loss to St. James.

  *   Maplesville got back to football action this week by thumping Ellwood Christian 69-16 and extended their regular season winning streak of 21 games. They are tied with Spanish Fort for the AHSAA lead after the Toros defeated Blount 21-14 in overtime Friday night.. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA with a string of 39 straight victories.

  *   Tanner has a string of 40 consecutive games in which they have come out a winner in region play. 

  *   Maplesville has also won 37 consecutive home games.

  *   Trinity, off to an 3-5 start with a tough schedule, will try to extend their streak of 32 straight winning seasons. The Wildcats last suffered through a losing season way back in 1981 when they finished with a 4-6 record.

  *   The T.R. Miller Tigers have an amazing streak of 350 games without being shutout after beating Geneva 17-0.

 * Coosa Christian set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Cedar Bluff 6-69.
 * Falkville set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Tarrant 35-77.
 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Edgewood Academy 6-63.
 * Tuscaloosa County set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to Hoover 27-66.
 * Westminster Christian set a team record for points allowed in a game by losing to North Jackson 42-69.
