Week 3

The 2015 season is well underway. Here are a few tidbits from week three's action.

   *  Clay-Chalkville, a 41-40 winner over Hillcrest and  St. Paul's with a 42-13 victory over B.C. Rain extended their winning streaks to eighteen games which lead the AHSAA schools. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 61 game winning streak following a 61-0 thumping of Glenwood School.

   *   Holly Pond has lost twenty-two consecutive football games. Holy Spirit ended their 21 game skid with a 21-6 victory over Vincent. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

   *   Bullock County has also lost 40 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  The Maplesville Red Devils have won 26 straight regular season games after taking the week off. They are well short of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few seasons back. Edgewood Academy has won 46 consecutive regular season games in the AISA.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 42 consecutive region wins after a 63-14 thrashing of Addison to begin region play this season.

   *   Maplesville has also won 43 consecutive home games.

   *   Spanish Fort has won 20 consecutive road games. Edgewood Academy has a string of 34 straight wins on the road.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 65 straight games with their exciting win over Hillcrest. The win extends their AHSAA state record.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least thirty points in 22 straight games in the AISA. That mark is just short of their record 26 game streak between 2011-12. Edgewood has also scored at least twenty points in 60 consecutive games.

   *   The new consecutive game scoring leader, the Hoover Bucs extended their streak to 319 games dating to 9/27/1991. The last time Hoover was shutout came against Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 13-0 some 24 years ago. The Bucs defeated Mountain Brook 21-14 on Friday.

   *   According to our records, Handley won their 500th game on Friday with a 42-6 win over Childersburg.

   *   Offense went wild this weekend. At least four games ended with over 100 points scored. Beauregard defeated Dadeville 68-33, Gadsden City trumped Sparkman 66-34, McKenzie beat Pleasant Home 72-29 and Priceville downed J.B. Pennington 68-41. By contrast, in the first two weeks their were only two games with 100 points scored.

   *   Speaking of offense, eleven teams scored at least sixty points over this past weekend led by J.U. Blacksher with a 76-0 win over J.F. Shields. Ironically, that is the same number of teams that accomplished the feat last week.

   *   Something new we will be adding to the Tidbits each week..... We will mention teams that pulled off memorable upsets of ranked teams and the last time they pulled it off if it has been a while. We will also mention the last time a team was shutout and the last time a team shutout an opponent if those two have not happened recently. So here we go.....

   *  Theodore upset #8 Baker by a score of 27-24. The last time the Bobcats defeated a ranked team was week 7 of the 2009 season when the upset #9 Murphy 23-16.

   *  Cleveland upset #1 Fyffe by a score of 21-14. The last time the Cleveland defeated a ranked team was week 10 of the 2008 season when the upset #10 Appalachian 21-14. The last time Cleveland beat a number one ranked team was ... well never. This was a first for the school.

   *  Plainview was shutout by North Sand Mountain 9-0 breaking a streak of 93 games where they scored. Bayside Academy was shutout by T.R. Miller breaking a string of 63 consecutive games in which they had scored.

   *  Rehobeth shutout Alabama Christian for their first shutout since the 2007 season.
