Week 5

The 2015 regular season is approaching the midway point. Here are a few tidbits from week five action.

   *  Clay-Chalkville, a 65-10 winner over Pinson Valley retains their hold on of the longest winning streak in the AHSAA at 20 games. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 63 game winning streak following a 68-18 victory over Morgan Academy.

   *   Holly Pond has lost twenty-four consecutive football games after a 49-14 loss to Susan Moore. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

   *   Bullock County has also lost 42 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  The Maplesville Red Devils have won 28 straight regular season games after defeating a strong Linden team 20-7. They are well short of the 56 game mark set by Prattville a few seasons back. Edgewood Academy has won 48 consecutive regular season games in the AISA.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 44 consecutive region wins after a 55-7 thrashing of Sumiton Christian in region play.

   *   Maplesville has also won 44 consecutive home games following their road win at Linden Friday night.

   *   Spanish Fort has won 21 consecutive road games after an impressive 41-18 win over Saraland on the road. Edgewood Academy has a string of 36 straight wins on the road after chalking up another on Friday.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 67 straight games with their win over Pinson Valley. The Cougars also hold the state record for scoring at least 30 points in consecutive games with a string of 25. Both extend AHSAA state records.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least thirty points in 24 straight games in the AISA. That mark is just short of their record 26 game streak between 2011-12. Edgewood has also scored at least twenty points in 62 consecutive games.

   *   The consecutive game scoring leader, the Hoover Bucs extended their streak to 321 games dating to 9/27/1991. The last time Hoover was shutout came against Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 13-0 some 24 years ago. The Bucs defeated Thompson 31-14 on Friday.

   *   Head coach Jamie Riggs picked up his 299th win on Friday. He can join only three other coaches with 300 wins in the state next week.

   *   Something new we will be adding to the Tidbits each week..... We will mention teams that pulled off memorable upsets of ranked teams and the last time they pulled it off if it has been a while. We will also mention the last time a team was shutout and the last time a team shutout an opponent if those two have not happened recently. So here we go.....

   *  Georgiana pulled off their second upset in a row after defeating #5 Brantley last week and #5 McKenzie 38-12 this week.

   *  James Clemens defeated #5 Buckhorn 23-7. It is the school's first ever victory over a top ten team in football. They were 0-5 previously.
