Week 6

The 2015 regular season is winding toward the playoffs. Here are a few tidbits from week six action.

   *  Clay-Chalkville, retains their hold on of the longest winning streak in the AHSAA at 20 games after taking the week off. Edgewood Academy leads the AISA school with a 64 game winning streak following a 57-7 dismantling of Lakeside.

   *   Holly Pond has lost twenty-five consecutive football games after a 40-0 loss to Fairview. The streak is not close to the longest in state history behind R.C. Hatch at 68 losses in a row.

   *   Bullock County has also lost 42 consecutive region games in a row.

   *  The Class 1A Maplesville Red Devils snapped a string of 28 straight regular season games after getting beaten by 2A Tanner 48-21. The new leader is Guntersville with a streak of 23 consecutive regular season victories. Edgewood Academy has won 49 consecutive regular season games in the AISA.

   *   Tanner has a streak of 44 consecutive region wins after their impressive non-region win over Maplesville.

   *   Maplesville also saw their 44 consecutive home game winning streak fall on Friday night. The lead now belongs to Muscle Shoals with a string of 35 straight home field wins over the past five seasons.

   *   Spanish Fort has won 21 consecutive road games following an open date this week.Edgewood Academy has a string of 36 straight wins on the road after winning on their home turf Friday.

   *   The Clay-Chalkville Cougars have scored at least twenty points in 67 straight games and will hope to conitnue that streak when they return to action this week. The Cougars also hold the state record for scoring at least 30 points in consecutive games with a string of 25. Both are AHSAA state records.

   *   Edgewood Academy has scored at least thirty points in 25 straight games in the AISA. That mark is just short of their record 26 game streak between 2011-12. Edgewood has also scored at least twenty points in 63 consecutive games.

   *   The consecutive game scoring leader, the Hoover Bucs extended their streak to 321 games dating to 9/27/1991. The last time Hoover was shutout came against Hewitt-Trussville by a score of 13-0 some 24 years ago. The Bucs also took the weekend off.

   *   Head coach Jamie Riggs picked up his 300th win on Friday. He joined Buddy Anderson, Waldon Tucker and Glenn Daniel as the only other coaches to win 300 games in the state. Congratulation to a great coach and person.

   *   Trinity snapped a streak of 184 consecutive games since the last time they were shutout prior to Friday when they fell to Montgomery Academy 21-0.

   *  Leroy won the school's 500th game according to our records, which by the way are incomplete for the Bears. They now have a 500-375-27 all-time record at AHSFHS.org

   *   Something new we will be adding to the Tidbits each week..... We will mention teams that pulled off memorable upsets of ranked teams and the last time they pulled it off if it has been a while. We will also mention the last time a team was shutout and the last time a team shutout an opponent if those two have not happened recently. So here we go.....

   *  Hillcrest Evergreen pulled off an upset by defeating #8 McKenzie on Friday. It is their first victory over a ranked team since 1997 when they defeated #2 T.R. Miller.

   *  James Clemens defeated #5 Buckhorn 23-7. It is the school's first ever victory over a top ten team in football. They were 0-5 previously.
