Week 8


The 2017 regular season is nearing the end of region play. The playoffs are coming! Here are a few tidbits from this week's action.

   *   Maplesville has the state's longest winning streak at 29 games following a thrashing of Isabella by the score of 55-20.

   *   Barbour County lost to Samson by a score of 58-6 and still has the state's longest losing streak at thirty-eight games.

   *   Bullock County has lost 56 consecutive region games following a 21-14 loss to region foe Trinity.

   *   Fyffe extended their 25 game regular season winning streak with a 49-7 victory over Collinsville.

   *   The state's longest region winning streak also belongs to Maplesville who has a string of 50 straight region victories.

   *   Piedmont has the state's longest home winning streak at twenty-four games. The Bulldogs defeated Walter Wellborn 35-10 on their home field. Monroe Academy (32) lead the AISA schools.

   *   Maplesville and Fyffe have also won 25 consecutive road games following their latest victories.

   *   Maplesville has scored twenty or more points in 44 consecutive games.

   *   Fyffe hopes to avoid the dreaded shutout and extend their streak of consecutive games scoring. They are currently sitting on a string of 228 games without being shutout.

   *   Vigor shutout Jackson 33-0 to hand the Aggies their first shutout in 115 games dating back to the 2008 season..

   *   Baldwin County defeated #7 Saraland 15-14 on a two point conversion for their first win over a ranked team since they beat Daphne during the 2004 football season.  

   *   Hoover has been ranked by the ASWA for an amazing 193 consecutive polls dating back to the 2000 season. The Bucs are the #2 team in Class 7A.

 * Jasper set a team record in a 63-34 loss to Gardendale breaking the previous record set in a loss to Lee Huntsville 61-0 on 10/14/1966.

 * Tarrant set a team record by defeating Tanner 65-0 breaking the previous record set when they defeated West Blocton 63-0 on 10/19/2001.

 * Weaver set a team record by defeating Munford 63-6 tying the previous record set when they defeated Glencoe 57-0 on 9/3/2004.

 * Glencoe set a team record in a loss 57-0 to Weaver breaking the previous record set when they lost to Collinsville 55-0 on .

 * Tanner set a team record in a loss 65-0 to Tarrant breaking the previous record set when they lost to East Limestone 62-0 on 8/30/2001.



Points Scored by Both Teams in a Game

 * Abbeville Christian set a team record in a loss 70-38 to Crenshaw Christian breaking the previous record set in a loss to Ashford Academy 65-36 on 11/14/1970.

 * Ellwood Christian set a team record in a loss 60-42 to Autaugaville breaking the previous record set in a loss to Victory Baptist 70-26 on 10/9/2009.

 * Selma set a team record in a 56-41 victory over Brookwood breaking the previous record set in a loss to Demopolis 46-41 on 8/28/1987.

 * Valley set a team record in a loss 49-34 to Sylacauga breaking the previous record set when they defeated Opelika 76-6 on 9/27/1968.

 * Mae Jemison set a team record with a 7-1 record. That tops the previous mark of 6-5-0 in 2016.

 * Mars Hill set a team record with a 5-3 record. That tops the previous mark of 2-8-0 in 2015.

 * Northside Methodist Academy set a team record with a 0-9 record. That tops the previous number of losses when they finished 2-8-0 in 2014.

 * Pinson Valley has never started 7-0 in a season.
 * Sidney Lanier last started a season 7-0 in 2000.
 * Thompson last started a season 7-0 in 1983.
 * Wetumpka last started a season 8-0 in 1995.
 * Wilson last started a season 7-0 in 1998.

 * Brooklane Baptist last started a season 5-1 in 1996.
 * Carver Birmingham last started a season 5-1 in 2003.
